Mental Health Awareness Club

The Mental Health Awareness Club of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics is a student-run organization that aims towards cultivating self-love while battling unhealthy emotions and becoming stronger than before.

Our mission is to improve the mental health of college students through raising awareness about mental health issues, building a safe space for them to share their stories, and providing them complimentary counselling sessions.

The objective of the club is to:

  • Raise awareness about mental health issues.
  • Reduce stigma associated with mental illness.
  • Promote help-seeking behaviour and emotional well-being practices.
  • Bridge the gap between students and mental health resources through individual education and outreach events.

ACTIVITIES 2021-2022

COUNSELLING SESSIONS

Mental Health Awareness Club brought one-on-one counselling sessions exquisitely for degree college students to help them accept, learn and grow more. These sessions are completely confidential between the student and the counsellor on board.

THE MILLENNIAL HEAVEN

Reading stories with real-life issues, making students feel heard about their life stories, self-help techniques, and more, The Millennial Heaven is a magazine that spread mental health awareness.

No one is alone in this world and everyone has their journey, this magazine aims toward the same message for the students of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics.

ACTIVITIES 2020-2021

COUNSELING SESSIONS

In light of the increasing mental health issues in recent times, the club provided Counseling Sessions for the students of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics by collaborating with some professional psychologists and counselors. The highlights of these sessions are:

  • The sessions can be availed exclusively by the Degree College students of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics.
  • These sessions are complimentary.
  • The sessions are conducted online (Zoom/ Google Meet).
  • Individual counseling sessions are provided with the counselor.
  • The information and documentation during the therapy sessions are privateand confidential.
  • Counseling sessions are provided in areas of Stress Management, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, Anxiety, Grief Counselling, Personal Growth, Clinical Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Career, and Relationship Counseling, Dealing with Phobia and Fears, Behavioural & Self-Esteem Issues.

The Counselors include Ms. Nikhila Deshpande, Dr. Ganesh Tajane, Ms. Devika Khanna and our Advisor, Ms. Pallavi Vasan. We have also collaborated with an organization for providing complimentary workshops for the students of H.R. College named, The Upper Storey which is run by Ms. Devanshi Kanani, Ms. Dhruvi Dharia, and Ms. Kinjal Vira.

HEALIUM: Hope. Heal. Harmonize.

May 23-28, 2021

The Mental Health Awareness Club of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics launched their event "HEALIUM: Hope. Heal. Harmonize.", on May 23, 2021.The event was the club's flagship event, the first day of which also marked the inauguration ceremony of the club. More than hundred people registered in this week-long event and participated in various activities. The activities were very much liked and appreciated by the participants, as it helped in healing invisible wounds, with the hope for things to get better in life, while realizing the importance of self-care and self-love.

Launch Event and Webinar on Anxiety Management during the Pandemic

A webinar conducted with Ms. Raashi Thakran, enlightened the audience on how to deal with stress and anxiety during this pandemic. Audience shared their stories and the speaker stressed on the importance of good mental health.

Let it Out

The participants let out their emotions and release their bottled-up feelings via any form of art from sketching, dancing, writing to singing. A Google form was circulated for the same for participants to upload their entries.

I Am Thankful

Participants undertook a series of tasks: writing a letter to oneself, to a loved one or one they admire; listing down 15 positive things that happened during the pandemic; hugging loved ones. These activities helped in developing an attitude of gratitude among the participants, and fostered a sense of well-being.

Inhale-Exhale

A Yoga & Meditation session was conducted by Ms. Parmita Shroff who introduced us to the wonders of meditation in dealing with stress and anxiety. She taught pranayama, body scan, breathing exercises, and various yoga poses that can have a calming efffect.

A Day for Myself

The day started with asking the participants to meditate for 15 minutes, followed by having a hot water bath. The first task given to them was to read a book or magazine for an hour. Second task was to pamper themselves by applying facemasks. The third task was about making a phone call to a friend or a family member whom they have not spoken for a while. The last task was to binge-watch their favourite TV show or listen to their favourite podcasts without any guilt.

Say No to Stress!

The participants played a variety of games that focused on distracting the mind from stress.The event concluded by distributing giveaways comprising of various books, quotes, short films, and Spotify playlists, to help the participants in their dark phases, uplift their mood and motivate them not to give up on themselves.
