THE SPORTS COUNCIL

Aims & Objectives

The Sports Council is the apex sporting body which aims at promoting fitness, sportsmanship and to provide its players complete support by ensuring an easy and hassle free foundation to participate in multiple sporting events and win laurels for the College. It also plays a prominent role in organizing and participating in numerous Inter and Intra-Collegiate events and plays a vital role in efficiently organizing several college activities.



Activities Done in 2019

Admission Process

The Sports Council along with The Students' Council has the privilege of managing and conducting internal and external admission procedure for more than 6,000 students. This includes the declaration of merit lists, verification of documents, assisting parents and students with their doubts and collection of fees over a span of 3 months.

Orientation

Every year, The Sports Council is instrumental in organizing the orientation for the first year students of Junior and Degree College. was held on 4 th July and 20th July, 2019 for Degree and Junior College respectively.

Induction

The Sports Council Induction Ceremony took place on the 20th of July, 2019.

Recruitment Process

The Sports Council recruitment process, which commenced on July 31st, 2019 involves a series of activities intended to shortlist and select the best of those interested to join the sporting body.

National Sports Day

The Sports Council celebrated the National Sports Day along with the NSS unit of H.R. College on 29th August, 2019 to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Major Dhyanchand. The event consisted of a Seminar which stressed the importance of physical fitness, the undertaking of the Sportsman Oath followed by some sporting activities for the students.

General Body Meeting

The Sports Council organised its General Body Meeting on 31st August, 2019 to welcome its new recruits. The recruits were introduced to the Core Committee members and given a brief about the Council, its functioning and the events that are organised throughout the year. Our Professor In-charge, Mr. Niren Mehta and Sports Director, Mr. Omkar Chavan, graced the event with their presence and also spoke a few words of encouragement.

H.R. Super Series

H.R. Super Series is a selection trial tournament for Degree & Junior college students interested in Chess, Carrom, Badminton & Table Tennis. The event, which witnessed a participation of more than 300 students, was held on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd August, 2019 for both Degree and Junior College.

Selection Trials

The selection trials prove to be a successful gateway for budding sportsmen to showcase their talent at a higher level. Trials are conducted for various sports and entries of shortlisted players are sent to the respective authorities. The players are provided with equipments and other facilities required to enhance their performance throughout the year.

Inter-Collegiate Mumbai University Water Polo Championship 2019-20

The Sports Council, for the last 7 years, has been given the opportunity to organise the Inter-Collegiate Water Polo Championship in affiliation with the University of Mumbai. For the academic year 2019-20, the event was organized on 16th September, 2019 at the P.M. Hindu Bath, Chowpatty. The Event Heads for the same were Muskaan Gangwani and Akankshi Sharma.

Inter-Collegiate Mumbai University Aquatics Tournament 2019-20

Along with the Inter-Collegiate Mumbai University Water Polo Championship, The Sports Council had also been given the opportunity to organise the Inter-Collegiate Aquatics Tournament in affiliation with the University of Mumbai. The event, which was organized on 18th and 20th of September, 2019 at the P.M. Hindu Bath, Chowpatty was headed by Muskaan Gangwani and Akankshi Sharma.

Committee Icebreaker

The Icebreaker for the Core Committee was held on 20 th October, 2019 with a trek to Visapur Fort. It aimed to strengthen existing bonds and gave the members a day of reprieve.

Recruits Icebreaker

The Sports Council organised an Icebreaker for its recruits on 22nd October, 2019. The recruits, through an interactive session of games and activities, kick-started their camaraderie and spent an enjoyable morning at Girgaon Chowpatty.

Physical Education Practical’s

The Sports Council being the only sporting body of the college is also responsible for conducting the F.Y.J.C. and S.Y.J.C.PE Practical Examination every semester.

Annual Sports Meet

This year, The Sports Council introduced a two-day event, The Annual Sports Meet. It was held on the 27th and 28th of January, 2020. The first day was The Annual Sports Day and the second day witnessed three different sporting activities - Score-A-Goal, H.R. Premier League, and Serve To Survive which was exclusively for girls.


Future Plan of Action

  • Continue with all the above said events at a bigger and better scale
  • Try and robe in more facilities, equipments and professional coaching for the betterment of our Players and their performance at Inter-Collegiate Level.
  • Introduce, host or organise a sporting festival at Inter-Collegiate Level/ State Level or All India Level.
