BUDGET ALLOCATION FOR EDUCATION - SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN, ARE WE THERE YET?

    April 2, 2022 Participants: 70

The discussion was primarily based on the education budget for 2022. Our guest, Dr. Ramanand, Director, Center of Policy Research and Governance Policy advisor for NEP. Member of NCF on Teacher Education spoke about many things and gave us an insight into how the government allocates funds to the education sector and how it is utilized in different schemes and programs launched by the government. He talked about a very important issue that the country is currently facing - that is, more and more Indian students are going abroad to pursue their higher studies which is not only taking away bright individuals from the country but is also affecting the economy since money is flowing to other nations.

He said that the government is being allotted sufficient money for the education sector but it is not being utilized to the fullest. The government's focus is just on primary education and not much importance is given to secondary, senior, and higher studies. Although there are various schemes launched for college-going students, not many people know about them and as a result, even the brightest of students are unable to continue their studies. On the other hand, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was a huge success that has contributed tremendously to increasing the literacy rate of our country.
