THE JOURNEY OF FUNDRAISING

September 18, 2022         Attendees: 40

The Monetrē club of H.R. College conducted a webinar on ‘The Journey of Fundraising’ by Mr. Karan Rajani who is a finance veteran all thanks to his 17 years of valuable experience across finance domains ranging from Debt Financing, Investment banking to Angel Investing, Venture capital and Fundraising. The webinar was conducted to educate students on the journey of start-up, fundraising and the various ways by one can raise funds for their start-up. There was a Q and A round wherein numerous questions were asked to the speaker and all the queries were answered satisfactorily.

ANIMAL FEEDING DRIVE

February 10-18, 2023         Participants: 40-42

Monetrē had recently collaborated with the Competitive Examination Guidance Cell, National Service Scheme of H.R. College, Special Cell and the Young Leaders Club and conducted a social initiative which aimed at feeding strays all around the city of Mumbai.

CORPORATE SERIES 3.0

February 15-18, 2023         Participants: 147

Monetrē - The BFSI club of H.R College of Commerce & Economics organized Corporate Series 3.0 with renowned financial experts as series guest speakers. The purpose of organizing the series was to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the BFSI industry with insights from top industry leaders.

POWER OF COMPOUNDING

February 15, 2022         Participants: 59

Speaker Mr. Uttam provided the rationale behind investing in stocks. He also discussed the ill effects of EMI and loans. He gave various examples of compounding and different investment options and explained the ‘Power of Compounding’ and the importance of financial literacy. The session was very informative and ended with a formal vote of thanks.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP’S ROLE IN CREATING THE “NEW NORMAL” IN ORGANIZATIONS AND SOCIETY

Speaker Mr. Ravi Ranjan started by telling the importance of the startup ecosystem and how much India has to grow in it after this he discussed the impact of various startups in their respective fields and how fast the startups have grown in recent years. He told about the various startups that have been socially impacting our society. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks.

DOING FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS OF A COMPANY

February 17, 2023         Participants: 35

Mr. Siddhant Garg gave a gist of what fundamental analysis is, the parameters to check the fundamental analysis of the company, and the difference between technical analysis and fundamental analysis. This was followed by a Q&A session and a formal vote of thanks.

FRUGAL LIVING LONG-TERM PLANNING (INVESTMENT)

February 18, 2023         Participants: 23

Mr. Raunak Damle gave an introduction to frugal living and why it is considered such an important way of living. He explained the relevance of the 1% rule in terms of frugal living. He also conveyed some experiences from his teenage life which enabled participants to better understand the topic. This was followed by a Q&A session and a formal vote of thanks.

The Course included vital concepts of personal finance planning

Students were intrigued to learn about this topic. They were benefited by this course as it helped them, improve their financial understanding, gave them the ability to manage their as well as their family's finances and make sound investment decisions.

ACTIVITIES 2021-2022

PERSONAL FINANCE
June 6, 2021

The Monetrē Club conducted its first event for the year 2021-2022 with Mr. Anmol Sharma. He is an engineer from NIT Jalandhar with a keen interest in the field of finance. Being a digital content creator, he owns a finance page called @financial_literate on Instagram with an audience of 180k+ followers. He is also the co-founder of Finlight. Finlight has 70,000+ followers on Instagram and 4000+ subscribers on YouTube. He has a massive community on WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and Telegram with more than 5,000 members.

The session-highlighted matters of personal finance, elements of financial planning, and learning to budget. Mr. Sharma emphasized budgeting steps that included the preparation of income and expense statements, and distribution of income. Mr. Sharma discussed many aspects of savings and advised that savings should be automated. He also touched upon investment plans for individuals and suggested the allocation of investments in diverse assets like Stocks, index funds, MF, real estate, and cryptocurrency for the long term. He did stress the need for a proper retirement plan in which retirement funds can be invested in NPS, EPF, PPF, Stocks, and Index funds depending upon one's risk appetite.

The Corporate Series version 1.0 covers a wide range of topics and shares valuable information on each of them. We aim to broach a variety of important subjects-matters from the world of Banking & Finance, Artificial Intelligence, and GST, providing us a comprehensive approach towards the same.

1. SWIFT MESSAGING SYSTEM
August 28, 2021

Mr. Prathmaish Sharma, an H.R. Alumni and a skilled Deloitte consultant, has more than 3 years of developing experience in the SWIFT messaging system.

He discussed the process of the SWIFT messaging system, which is like an SMS (mobile SMS) service between banks, if one bank wants to communicate with another bank, it uses the SWIFT Messaging System. SWIFT generally supports financial sectors but different series of SWIFT can be used in different sectors. Large companies can benefit by keeping the SWIFT communication network. He touched upon many important aspects of the SWIFT Messaging System and the discussion provided valuable insight into a topic not known to many and fuelled the interest and curiosity of all participants.

2. AI in Banking Industry
August 28, 2021

Mr. Utpal Chakraborty, who has served as the Head of Artificial Intelligence at Yes Bank, conducted the session. He is an eminent Data Scientist and AI researcher, quantum scientist, strategist, and thought leader having more than two decades of industry experience.

The talk encapsulated various concepts of AI from its evolution to the future of AI, and its effect on human beings. He highlighted the use of AI in Banking. He also emphasized how India is at the forefront of the implementation of AI, especially in the banking sector. Mr. Chakraborty also engaged in discussing the possibility of AI completely replacing humans. In his opinion, AI will never eliminate humans but can replace them in some or the other forms in the future. He finally touched upon the future of AI and predicted that soon AI will be inseparable from our daily lives.

3. GST Scandals
August 29, 2021

Mr. Jay Bohra is a Chartered Accountant (AIR3) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (USA). He is an experienced young GST professional with years of expertise in the field of finance who shared his wealth of knowledge by engaging in an intuitional discussion of the "What's", "Why's" and "How's" of the GST Scandals.

The discussion focussed on the numerous financial scandals and fraudulent activities that have plagued the country about GST and how to resolve the ensuing crisis.

THE CORPORATE SERIES 2.0

Version 2.0 of this project covers a wide range of topics and shares valuable information on each of them. A series that links your theoretical knowledge to reality while letting you explore new horizons as you become adept in industry knowledge and connect with high-end professionals.

There was an audience of 100+ for all sessions with whom the speakers shared their wealth of knowledge by engaging in an insightful discussion of the “What's", "Why's" and "How's"

1. WEALTH MANAGEMENT
November 8, 2021

Mr. Shashank Pal is the Head - of Cooperative Banks Business at SBI Mutual fund. He has more than two decades of varied experience in the financial services industry across the country where he holds expertise in financial planning, wealth management, portfolio management, investment advisory, client-facing roles, sales strategy, merchant banking, corporate finance, and issue management and so on.

2. CAREER IN FINANCE

Mr. Soumyajit Paul is currently serving Native as a consultant and has formerly worked with Standard Chartered Bank as a Priority Relationship Manager. He has gained more than 8 years of experience in the BFSI industry while working with companies like HDFC Bank, Yes Bank, and TCS.

3. BIG-TECH IN BANKING
November 10, 2021

Mr. Subhojit Roy is currently working as an Independent Technology Consultant in the BFSI sector. Previously, he was Chief Information Officer and Head of Information Technology at SBI Funds for more than 14 years. He has also worked in the USA for one of their largest home loan mortgage companies. With more than 28 years of diversified experience.

MASTERCLASS ON COMPANY VALUATION
April 9, 2022

Valuing a company is essential during mergers, acquisitions, and litigation and it is used for various other purposes. Especially after the new trending show 'Shark Tank-India' aired wherein the entrepreneurs used to offer equity in their business for a certain amount based on the valuation of the company a lot more people were interested in knowing how these start-ups value themselves.

CA Dr. Shardul Shah is a partner in M.A. SHAH and Company one of Mumbai's leading CA partnership firms. He is an active member of the Bombay Chartered Accountancy society, chamber of tax consultants. He is also a member of the career counselling Committee of WIRC of ICAI.

Dr. Shardul Shah gave a detailed discussion on the valuation of various Unicorn Start-ups as well as other large companies and the various purposes for which the company valuation is essential.
