General Events & Management Society – GEMS

GEMS promotes the holistic development of students and inculcates managerial skills among them. The club plays a key role in the individual growth of each student. It helps in organising the Annual Prize Distribution, Bazaar an annual event where students put up stalls to develop entrepreneurship skills, and organizes a Christmas party every year for underprivileged children.

ACTIVITIES 2020-2021

FOCUS
July 7-9, 2020

A fun photography contest with the theme 'micro photography'; to encourage people to take a fresh look at home photography using a micro lens or a phone.
The shortlisted 8 contestants were judged and selected by Vinay Kumar, founder and creative visionary at Kodeblack Creative. The top 8 pictures selected were first put up on GEMS Instagram story along with a poll and the top three pictures were chosen according to the maximum number of votes.

DOODLE WORKSHOP

A relaxing Zen doodling workshop conducted by Kamalrukh Gotla, a Chartered Accountant by qualification but an artist by passion with an experience of conducting 250+ art workshops. 50+ attendees were present for this Zoom Workshop,

MENTAL HEALTH WEEK
July 12-18, 2020

3 interactive and insightful Instagram live sessions were held to break the stigma around mental health through personal experiences of the speakers:

‘MENTAL HEALTH SESSION’ - July 13 with Farrhad Accidwala, an HR Alumni, a TEDx speaker and a Mental Health influencer.

‘COOKING AS A THERAPY’ - July 15 with Ripu Handa, winner of the Masterchef India Season 3.

‘BODY POSITIVITY’- July 18 with Natasha Noel, an Instagram Celebrity and a Trained Yogini.

TUNES AND TWIRLS
July 19 to 25, 2020

July 20 - An Instagram live concert featuring Ashwin Adwani, a breakthrough performer and Avanti Nagral who is the first in the world to pursue a dual degree of both Harvard University and Berkeley College of music. She has also performed at the United Nations and the TEDx conferences globally.

July 23 - An Instagram live concert featuring Akshath Acharya, who recently released his new single "Bad for me" and Mallika Mehta, an alumna of Berkley College of Music & Harvard University, who is known as the Adele of Mumbai by leading international magazines like Rolling Stones.

July 25 - The week ended with a dance workshop conducted by Naina Modi a 21-year-old certified Bollywood dancer and Youtuber. 30+ attendees danced along with Naina on Zoom.

STOCK MARKET 101
July 31, 2020

An introductory session to the Stock Market was conducted with Rohit Ingulkar on Instagram Live. Rohit is the founder of THE UNEMPLOYED CEO. He is a Stock Market Consultant and Human Physiology Expert.

Various topics that were covered in the session were - Cash Market, Basic definitions (Nifty, Sensex, Bear and Bull market), myths related to the Stock Market, a basic introduction to Fundamental and Technical analysis, etc.

JOB SEARCH AND CV BUILDING
August 1, 2020

JOB SEARCH with Building an Effective CV and LinkedIn Profile, a webinar with Satyam Khandewal. Various topics that were covered in this session were the scope of different fields (Specifically MBA), importance of a LinkedIn profile and digital marketing.
Various doubts and queries of the attendees were addressed. 75+ students who were provided with E-certificates attended the webinar conducted on Zoom.

CALLISTO - A CELESTIAL PHENOMENON
November 28-29, 2020

General Event Management Society organised a first of its kind two day virtual intra-collegiate fest called 'CALLISTO' for the esteemed clubs of HR College, with an aim to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their talent, skill and wit via a plethora of competitions. The various events were as follows:

WEBINAR - Mr. Sanchayan Bhattacharjee, a renowned journalist currently working as a manager at the Jio Institute, organized a webinar on 'Busting Myths about Journalism' - 33 Participants.

TORTS ILLUSTRATED - an event organized to test debating and problem solving skills of the students. Participants were required to emulate a lawyer and to make the best argument possible, to either set their client free or put a criminal behind bars - 23 Participants.

TRIVIALOGY - a quiz based event with some twists and turns. The event had one elimination round with two phases. Categories for the quiz were My city, My state, Finance, Economics, Sports and Current affairs - 66 Participants.

THE DILEMMA - an event based on Social Issues prevailing in our society. This event revolved around checking the participants' adaptability with social issues. Participants were required to come up with creative solutions to tackle social issues provided to them - 42 Participants.

EFIMERIS - a journalism based event, which had 2 rounds. Participants submitted a newspaper with 2 articles in round 1 while in round 2 they emulated news anchors - 14 Participants.

AUTOSCHEDIASM - an improv event where participants were given a topic on the spot, with variations. This event had 2 rounds where the second round also had a surprise element - 48 Participants.

ACTIVITIES 2019-2020

CHASE 2019
August 9 & 10, 2019

Chase is an annual treasure hunt event held by the General Event Management Society of H.R. College. The main goal of the event is to build teamwork and the spirit of participation among the participants and organising committee. Each year, newly admitted freshers of the junior and degree college participate in the event in huge numbers and display their intellect and problem-solving skills through this activity.

AHAAN 2019 - A Ray of Hope
November 15 & 17, 2019

Ahaan - a Ray of Hope, is an initiative by the General Event Management Society, to reach out to the underprivileged part of the society by raising funds and channelizing them for the benefit of such people.

This year, with the help of PRAABHU NAYAN FOUNDATION, a 2-day social event was held, where members gave a helping hand in organizing a sports day for the physically challenged and the abandoned children of the farmers.

BAZAAR 2019
December 14, 2019

Bazaar is an entrepreneurial event organised by the General Event Management Society where budding entrepreneurs compete with one another showcasing 15 different concepts, earning profit through umpteen sales. Bazaar was set up for a whole day in the K.C. Quadrangle with over 13 stalls including 2 sponsorship stalls, selling various food items, accessories, commodities etc. This year there was a twist given to Bazaar with a theme of Bollywood to it. Bazaar was also conducted at an inter-club level. More than 8 clubs competed against each other to take home the coveted trophy.

Awards won were:

CHRISTMAS 2019
December 20 & 24, 2019

G.E.M.S celebrated Christmas with Sind Modern High School students on December 20. On December 24 the celebration was with the Foster Group children in the college. G.E.M.S. has been organizing the Christmas Party for the Foster Group Children for many years now.

On both mornings many games were played, with no room for boredom. Presents were given to winners of the games, followed by cutting of the cake along with their teacher in-charge. The kids then happily danced their hearts out to Bollywood tunes. Santa Claus made a grand appearance and gave the children their presents and sweets. The children enjoyed the event with our members with much enthusiasm. A package of food with snacks and a drink was relished by all the kids. After a few fun-filled hours, the kids waved goodbye with wide smiles on their faces. Overall, it was a very 'Merry' Christmas for everyone.
