B.Voc. Committee

Bachelor of Vocational Program is a committee of Tourism and Hospitality Management(THM), Retail Management(RM) and Wealth Management(WM) students. The B.Voc. Committee aims at breaking the monotony of book learning and inculcating practical learning. Industry professionals are invited to conduct guest lectures, seminars, and workshops to make the students ready for the corporate world. Additionally, the committee endeavors to equip the students with the skills and knowledge required to face the challenges and insights of the dynamic world. The club allows students to expand their thinking, interest, and scope.

MONEY EXPO 2023

The B.Voc. Committee was a part of a huge financial event Money Expo 2023 held at Jio Convention Centre. This was mainly organised for Wealth Management Students and led by faculty in charge Mrs. Mamta Shukla and Mr. Faaiz Patel.

Students were excited to attend the conference on financial markets where they got the opportunity to learn Share Trading, Forex, Crypto, Mutual Funds and much more. Students interacted with professionals from several domestic and international companies such as TLC Coins, Just Markets, TNFX, FX Careers, OFX trade limited, Rock West trading platform, Dhan among others. A lot of information and knowledge was shared about start-up companies and their business models.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH OLA & UBER

The B.Voc. Committee of HRC organized a webinar for the students of FY, SY and TY BVOC as a part of their Experiential Learning Lecture Series. Guest speaker Mr. Mangesh Krishna Hode who has been working with Ola and Uber as a partner since past 12 years gave a talk on “My Experience with Ola & Uber”.

Students were excited to gain insights into the world of ride-sharing platforms, learn about Mr. Mangesh Hode’s personal journey and experiences, discover the secrets to effective customer handling and successful business operations. The seminar was a success with students getting a chance to learn by engaging with an industry expert and broaden their horizons by gaining an insider’s perspective.

CORPORATE GIFTS & STATIONERY EXPO

The B.Voc. Committee of HRC organized a visit for the Retail Management students to the India Big 7 International Trade Fair, which focused on "Corporate Gifts and Stationery".

India Big 7, recognized as a prominent player in this field, showcased a multitude of booths representing well-established brands such as Ubon, Boat, American Tourister, Welspun, J. Hampstead, among others. This event served as an exceptional platform for students to acquaint themselves with cutting-edge products and delve into the world of corporate gifts and stationery. Students enrolled in B.Voc., particularly those pursuing the Retail Management course, participated in this event to enhance their understanding of their chosen field.

GLOBAL FINTECH 2023

The B.Voc Committee with participation from Wealth Management students was a part of the Global Fintech 2023 held at Jio Convention Centre. Students got the opportunity to learn the insights on payments, e-currency and much more. They met several domestic and international companies such as Amazon Pay, Gpay, Razorpay, RBI, Route mobile, C-Edge and others from whom they gained a lot of knowledge on these concepts. There were several other students, teachers, investors, businessmen who attended the event and got to know more about these companies and their business models.

BUSINESS PLANNING AND FORECASTING

This Webinar aimed to provide students with valuable insights into essential aspects of business planning, forecasting and financial markets, etc. This interactive and engaging session was a huge success and a great learning experience for the students.

ACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY IN HOSPITALITY: A PRACTITIONER’S PERSPECTIVE

Shraddha Joshi Sharma, Managing Director of MTDC as a part of their Experiential Learning Lecture Series.

This webinar aimed to provide students with valuable insights into green investments and responsible and sustainable tourism. It taught the students to be mindful in their use of resources to avoid damage or extinction. This interactive and engaging webinar was a huge success and a great learning experience for the students.

A HOLISTIC VIEW TOWARDS WEALTH MANAGEMENT

The B.Voc. Committee organized an online webinar on ‘A Holistic View towards Wealth Management’ with Mr. Girish Sehgal, Head of Wealth Management dept. ICICI Bank and Mr. Rahul Agarwal, Product Head - Investments, ICICI Bank. The session gave students an insight into wealth management as a career option.

The event started with the declaration of results of sector skill exams for the FY and SY students of B.Voc. Wealth Management course. It was followed by a knowledge-packed session by our guests who gave a very detailed overview of the sector. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks.

HOW TO BUILD A LINKEDIN PROFILE

OPPORTUNITIES IN BFSI INDUSTRY & STAR HEALTH INSURANCE

Committee organized an offline seminar on ‘BFSI Industry & Star Health Insurance Co Ltd’ with speaker Mr. Dushyant Sharma, Senior Area Manager Head at Star Health Insurance with 18 years of experience in sales & marketing, banking, Life insurance & Standalone health insurance sector. Mr. Sharma spoke about the importance of health insurance and why one must get it and he also spoke about the opportunities available in BFSI Industry.

The key takeaways from the session were:

  • Health insurance protects you from unexpected high medical costs.
  • Opting for a health insurance early in life has numerous benefits
  • With rising medical cost, not having an adequate health cover can be financially draining.

RETHINKING TOURISM

The B.Voc. Committee had organized a webinar which was conducted by MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation) with course co-ordinator Ms. Kanupriya Sharma and programme in-charge Mr. Faaiz S. Patel at the helm of affairs. The B.Voc. THM attended the exclusive webinar through Zoom.

The session was conducted on the topic “Rethinking Tourism”. The guest speaker for this knowledge packed session was Mr. Himashu Agashiwala, Managing Director, Columbus Travels, Mumbai. He discussed how the tourism and travel sector was one of the hardest hit by pandemic and the steps that needed to be taken for the recovery of the tourism industry.

The guest speakers were Ms. Soraya Postel & Fabia Postel, Homestay Hosts. The session was also graced with the presence of Smt. Jayashree Bhoj, IAS, Managing Director, MTDC. The suggestion of two of H.R. students, Swara & Daman, were noted down by MTDC and will be reviewed before implementation.

B.Voc. Committee of H.R. College conducted an exciting LIFE SKILLS guest session in the form of an interactive webinar on “Entrepreneurship in Tourism” attended by students from B.Voc. (THM & RM). The guest speaker was Mr. Prashant Singh, Managing Director, Holiday Yaari Vacations. The interactive webinar was coordinated by Mr. Faaiz S. Patel & Ms. Kanupriya Sharma.

The guest speaker interacted with the students after explaining his real life example covering the following points:

  • How can one make an entry in the tourism sector?
  • What is the investment and the associated risks involved?
  • What are the challenges in the Tourism industry and how do we overcome them?

DIGITALISATION IN FINANCE

The B.Voc. Committee organized a guest session by programme in-charge Dr. Tasneem Razmi and event in-charge Mrs. Mamta Shukla. It was an interactive webinar on “Digitalization in Finance”. The guest speaker of the session was CA. Jitendra Attra, CFO and Executive Vice President of Edelweiss General Insurance Company, Associate Vice President of ICICI Prudential Company and a former Financial Controller in SBI Life.

This session was exclusively arranged for the students who are interested in working in the Finance Industry. Session highlighted the importance of digital transformation in finance industry & also discussed the impact of digital payments.

The B.Voc. Committee in collaboration with BAMMC Committee organised a tête-à-tête with Actress Divya Seth Shah. She mainly works in Hindi TV serials and Films. She made her acting debut in 1984 in Hindi TV Serial “Hum Log” as “Majhli”. She has worked in many popular TV shows and films. She is best known for her portrayal of “Majhli” and “Mrs. Khanna” From “Jab We Met” (2007). She shared her journey in the industry and experience of her acting career, dispelling many misconceptions related to acting. The session was very interactive & engaging & ended with a Q&A.

WORLD TEA & COFFEE EXPO 2022

B. INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION

The World Tea & Coffee Expo, INDIA [WTCE] was launched in 2013. It was the inception of the most dominant B2B avenue for industry stakeholders to network with interested investors, brew increased business opportunities, exchange ideas or enter the business by associating with leading brand names.

The students of Retail Management interacted with corporates and exhibitors. The visit was very fruitful and students came back with a lot of valuable information regarding the industry.

BFSI SUMMIT BY BUSINESS STANDARD

The B.Voc. Committee conducted a visit to BFSI SUMMIT BY BUSINESS STANDARD with programme in-charge Ms. Mamta Shukla.

This was an excellent opportunity especially for students of wealth management. Students interacted with people from various industries like Banking, Fintech, Real Estate, Insurance, and benefitted from the expertise of professionals.

Session highlights included:

  • RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, explained the recent changes in the repo rates and its effect on inflation and the RBI’s efforts to curb inflation.
  • Students interacted with various business executives and gained invaluable knowledge and guidance from them.
  • Students had the hands-on opportunity to interact with apex market players and network with them, ask them about internship opportunities in respective fields.
E-SUMMIT’23 IIT BOMBAY

The B.Voc. Committee conducted a visit to E-SUMMIT’23 the annual flagship event of IIT BOMBAY with programme in-charge Asst. Prof. Mamta Shukla and Asst. Prof. Faaiz S. Patel.

The aim of the event was to provide a platform for discussions on innovative ideas that have the potential to transform current challenges into opportunities. It was a perfect opportunity for the students to build their entrepreneurial vision by networking with different entrepreneurs.

Many distinguished speakers such as Ashneer Grover, Aakash Gupta, Aryamaan Vikram Birla, Mr. Kishore Jayaraman, Barkha Dutt, Shruti Haasan, among others offered valuable insights to students and participants.

Professors of Tourism and Hospitality Management Mr. Faaiz S. Patel & Ms. Anjali Dhanani conducted a visit to OTM (Outbound Travel Mart) under B.Voc. Committee of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics.

Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) held at Jio Convention Centre, BKC on February 2-4, 2023 is a premier Travel Trade Show in India. It is India’s largest international gathering of travel trade buyers and professionals.

Mr. Faaiz S. Patel & Ms. Anjali Dhanani interacted with many corporates, DMCs', Travel Agents, etc. for building long-term business relations with H.R. College.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

VISIT TO BOMBAY STOCK EXCHANGE

The B.Voc. Committee of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics arranged a visit to Bombay Stock Exchange. A session was conducted on career options as a Data Scientist and more than 100 students from H.R. College attended the session to understand Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and career prospects in Data Science.

AN INSIGHT ON HOSPITALITY VOCATION AND UTTARAKHAND TOURISM

January 18-25, 2023         Attendees: 96

The B.Voc. Committee of H.R. College organized an Industrial Visit to Uttarakhand.

The trip included visits to key destinations like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Dhanaulti, Rishikesh & Haridwar. Students experienced campus visits, heritage tourism, adventure tourism including white-water river rafting, and camp tourism at Camp Majestic, Shivpuri. They also participated in spiritual tourism by visiting Ram Jhula, Laxman Jhula, and witnessing the evening Ganga Aarti.

Additionally, the B.Voc. students won the ‘Winners Trophy’ at the inter collegiate fest “EndGame” in Uttarakhand.

CERTIFICATE COURSE

PROJECT SAKSHAM

The BVOC Committee of H.R. College in association with Star health association, had conducted a “PROJECT SAKSHAM” a 30-hour certification course focused on providing a holistic insight into the workings of various insurance products. The aim of this course was to enhance capabilities so that they can be insurance agents and able to generate income by selling and making people aware about insurance products.

INTERCOLLEGIATE WIN

CHESS COMPETITION

August 22-23, 2022

H.R. College had participated in the inter-collegiate chess competition 2022-23 at MMK College, Bandra. Many colleges from Mumbai and Thane district had participated in this competition. With immense pleasure, we would like to inform you that our H.R. college student - Ms. Prachi Bafna from T.Y.B.VOC. (RM) won the First Prize at inter-collegiate chess competition 2022-23.

ACTIVITIES 2021-2022

Retailers Association's Skill Council of India (RASCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Service Skills Australia (SSA) - Australia's Industry Skills Council for service industries including retail on April 11, 2013 in Mumbai to collaborate in developing the skill ecosystem benefitting Australia and India, the 5th largest global retail destination.

During Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's state visit to India last year, both the PMs welcomed collaboration in key industry areas including retail, mining, agriculture, telecommunications, and entertainment between the Australian and Indian Skills Councils.

The MoU was signed by the Chairman of RASCI, Mr. Bijoy Sahoo, and CEO of SSA, Ms. Jeanette Allen, in the presence of Steve Waters, Australian Consul-General to Mumbai, a representative from National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and James Raphael, Vice President of RASCI.

SECTOR SKILL EXAMINATION

Conducted sector skill examinations to train students and further test the skills of students in their respective fields of Tourism, Retail, and Wealth.

Memorandum of understanding signed with THSC - Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council - 60 students appeared for the THSC exam.

THSC is an inclusive representation of the Government, Industry, and Industry Ass Institutes across India. Tie-ups -

  • Collaboration with RASCI - Retailers Association Skill Council Of India - 65 students appeared for the RASCI exam. The Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India aims to create a sustainable industry-aligned ecosystem by promoting retail skill development, benefiting millions in India to get respectable employment opportunities for serving customers and other stakeholders.
  • Collaboration with BFSI Sector Skill Council of India

A total of 150 students across all 3 courses appeared for the Sector Skill examination. The examination process was handled by the B.Voc. Committee under the guidance of teacher coordinators. There were orientations conducted to simplify the process of conduct of examinations, being online due to the pandemic.

WALK DOWN THE DALAL STREET
February 8, 2022

“Walk down the Dalal Street” was organized by the B.Voc. Committee with the coordinator Dr. Tasneem Razmi to provide an E-visit to the broker firm named ACK Capital Management Pvt Ltd. The speaker and the guest were the directors of ACK Capital Management Mr. Sunil Kamdar.

He explained how the data is transferred from the front offices to the back offices, then how the orders are placed, and so on. They even provided the live experience of trading on BOLT and NEAT with the software for technical and fundamental analysis.

Got a brief overview of the back-office operations, the technical and the fundamental analysis, and got an opportunity to look at the research software of stockbroker.

BVOC BAZAAR
April 3, 2022

A wonderful event “BVOC BAZAAR" (a stall fest) was organized by BVOC Committee. This was a full daylong event. The B.Voc. Committee had set up 3 stalls - Key Chain Stall, Food Stall, and a Shoe Stall.

For the key chain stall, we had trendy and unique key chains. For the Food stall, we had a snack called veg-puff and the shoe stall was all about winning a shoe. For shoe stall, a game was organized named BALL TOSS game in which a single person will have three chances to throw the ball at the given target, and whoever wins they will get a branded new shoe as a prize, which cost around 1.5K – 2K. But sadly no one had won that game. It was a tough game.

It was a successful event. It was overwhelming to get such an amazing response (especially for the shoe stall) from everyone including our Buyers, Teachers, and Principal.

B.Voc Wealth Management

3 years skill-oriented undergraduate program designed to impart industry-relevant skills in the wealth management domain and enables one to make a career in the financial services sector. A distinguishing factor of the Wealth Management course is the skill sector exam at the end of each year that is based on a qualification pack adopted from the BFSI, which helps in obtaining better jobs in the industry.

The webinar 'Careers in Event Management' was the very first webinar to be organized by the B.Voc Committee of H.R. College. The guest speaker for the event was Ms. Kinjal Shah, owner of the events and artists management company, Asterisks.
Not only did she give us first-hand knowledge about the events industry but also spoke about the various career options that this industry has to offer. Since our students are from the Hospitality as well as Retail background, this webinar was truly useful to them. The webinar shed some light on the ever-growing event management industry, the responsibilities of an event manager, education required to pursue the same and lastly, career opportunities for our students.

CONSUMER GOODS AND INNOVATION
October 15, 2020

The session by Mr. Vedant Bhartee, an alumnus of the College, founder of Retale Gateway, started with a Pop Quiz about the brands and their innovative techniques to catch the eye of consumers, followed by an introduction to Consumer Goods. Topics Covered in the session were Consumer Goods – Umbrella Marketing, Types, e.g. of a few brands; Supply Chain; Demand Generation - CAC & CLV; Marketing Vs Advertisement - need for technology; Marketing & Innovation in India; Innovation across the world; and How to engage with Rural Marketing.
After discussing all of the above topics, Vedanth also spoke about how his very innovative ideas led him to create his own company – Retale Gateway.
This was then followed by a Q/A session where he answered questions asked by the students. A few of them being - consumer brands in India, innovation and, his start-up. The purpose of this session was to get the First-Year students familiar with the various types of consumer brands, what they are and how important are they for each individual. How the marketing techniques and innovation persuades us into buying the goods and services.

A SENSE-ATIONAL WAY TO BECOME A SENSE-IBLE MARKETER
October 16, 2020 Alumnus Mr. Krish Velkar, a planner at Ogilvy, a BMS graduate from the H.R. College, who went to pursue his dual degree in Marketing, in London; had an interactive session held with the FY's.
He gave an outline about the topic Sensory Marketing in brief, and explained using various videos and examples of how marketers use this technique to engage the consumers senses and affects their buying behavior.
The topics covered in the session were The 5 Senses; Definition of Sensory Marketing; Overview of the individual Senses influencing us; Use of Color in marketing; Real life examples of how marketers use this technique; Product coherence with Music; Quiz on Recognition of Brands by their sound; How packaging also affects the buying behavior, Different Haptics used – Texture, Weight, Temperature and, Hardness; and how to apply the information in Real life/Business projects.
Various examples were provided during the session, of how senses play a major role as a triggering factor when marketing goods and services. Mr. Krish also spoke about his experiences.
The lecture was followed by a Q/A Session, with questions about Marketing in general and how his skills were put to use at his workplace.

TRAVEL & LANGUAGES
November 6, 2020

A webinar on Travel and Languages was organised by the B.Voc. Committee held exclusively for the Tourism students by AwayWeGoo founder, content creator and language coach Ms. Madhurika.
Tourism and speaking a foreign language go hand in hand, and this was further highlighted in this webinar. The students learnt about the various benefits of learning a new language as well as the job opportunities in both the language and tourism industry. Moreover, we learnt how learning a new language can make your travel experiences much richer and how it gives you an insight into the culture of another country. The webinar was a hit among the students and a few of them have showed keenness to learn a foreign language.
