Code Club

The Club of Debate & Elocution of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics focuses on mainly literary events. This club organizes events that are related to elocution, literature, and creativity. We have a kaleidoscope of elements when it comes to our club like teamwork, smart work, innovation, creativity, and most importantly thrill.

ACTIVITIES 2023-24

ELOCUTION COMPETITION

OCTOBER 14, 2023         Attendees: 60

The C.O.D.E. Club of HR College organized an intracollegiate Elocution Competition- Stand Up, Speak Up. The competition was held not only to choose the best speaker but also to enhance debating and communication skills among students. After welcoming the judges from the Degree College, all the participants came up in pairs for chit-picking – to choose their topic. Topics were such that the teenagers of the Gen Z could relate and effectively express their opinion FOR or AGAINST it. The participants had to speak FOR or AGAINST their topic for a minimum of 90 seconds and a maximum of 150 seconds. There were various questions from the audience as well to the participants.

Principal – Dr. Pooja Ramchandani Ma’am inspired the young speakers and encouraged them to participate in such events that enhance their personal growth and development.

President – Chandan Daswani described how effective communication & oratory skills are needed in the fast evolving world be it in interviews, group discussions or any other basic communication.

The compere then called upon Vice Principal – Ms. Laju Sharma, professor in-charge – Dr. Misha Bothra and the judges to announce the winners and address the crowd. Photographs were captured with the winners and OC and Core Team Members.

Y.W.C.A., COLABA VISIT

November 8th, 2023         Attendees: 60

The CLUB OF DEBATE AND ELOCUTION (C.O.D.E. Club) visited the iconic Y.W.C.A., Colaba. Dr. Shilpa Gadre, a renowned clinical psychologist held an insightful and empowering workshop on topics which the ‘Gen Z’ can relate to. Like – parent-teenager relations, teenage relationships, career, LGBTQ+ community etc. The FYJC and SYJC students thereafter interacted with the Guest Speaker Dr. Shilpa Gadre in a Q&A round session. It is truly said that "We become like the people by whom we are surrounded". The speaker, who had met with very eminent personalities, was an image of them. Dr. Gadre, with a lot of experience, advised all the students on the problems and difficulties they faced in their teenage years.

The participants were served some refreshments after the session. Overall, it was an engaging and interactive session.

Make My Brand

January 15th, 2024         Attendees: 33

The CLUB OF DEBATE AND ELOCUTION (C.O.D.E. Club) of H.R. College organised an elocution-based competition called Oratory Odyssey under Make My Brand on 15th January 2024. This competition was not only to showcase one's ability to hold an audience but also to create a deeper understanding of Marketing, Branding and what really goes into selling a product. We had Ms Kavya Vaidyanathan as our judge from Degree College and our chief guest Ltd Cdr M. Sujata [retired] both of them presented insightful and motivating speeches at the end. The participants each had 120 seconds to express their views and 30 to give a concluding remark. After announcing the winners, the compere then called upon the professor in charge – Dr. Misha Bothra to present a bouquet as a token of appreciation to our chief guest. ACTIVITIES 2022-23

DEBATE COMPETITION

September 30, 2022         Attendees: 25

The C.O.D.E. Club of H.R. College organized a War of Words - A Debate Competition - Stand Up, Speak Up.The competition was held not only to choose the best speaker but also to enhance debating and speaking skills among students.

There were three main genres from which the participants made their selections:

  • Television Shows
  • General Topics
  • Marvel Cinematic.

First round was about speaking either FOR or AGAINST the topic for a minute. Second round was about counter questioning the opponent. The participants found the topics unique and interesting. There were two winners from FYJC and one winner from SYJC.

The compere then called upon the teacher-in-charge - Dr. Misha Bothra and the judges to announce the winners and address the crowd.

YWCA VISIT

January 13, 2023.         Attendees: 55

The C.O.D.E. Club of H.R. College visited the iconic Y.W.C.A., Colaba. Dr. Narayan Iyer, CEO of Indian Development Foundation spoke on Leadership’. Dr. Iyer advised all the students to take each and everything, whether big or small, seriously for there is only one life and it is not a joke. He also stated that Hard Work + Teamwork + God’s Grace = Success. The session ended with a Q&A and a formal vote of thanks.

INTER-COLLEGIATE WIN

ELOCUTION COMPETITION

December 19, 2022

The C.O.D.E. Club of H.R. College participated in the inter-collegiate Elocution Competition - ‘Your Word’s Worth It’ organized by St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science & Commerce at Bandra.

The topics for elocution were:

  • The Present is a present
  • Appreciation is the need of the hour
  • The healing power of music
  • Your attitude determines your altitude

Each participant was given four minutes to speak on their topic. C.O.D.E represented H.R. College and won the first prize in the inter-collegiate elocution competition.
