BOOK LAUNCH SESSION

October 3rd 2023         Attendees- 9

Liber Amantes - The Book Club of H.R.College of Commerce and Economics was a part of an interactive Book Launch session of the book ‘Nothing But The Truth’ authored by our former alumni and founder of the I.I.M.U.N ‘Rishabh Shah’ launched by the coolest monk ‘Gaur Gopal Das’ and interviewed by a renowned television actor ‘Nakuul Mehta’. The session was conducted for students to understand the author's mind, perspective and thinking process. It was an insightful event as the students gathered at Sophia College and took an opportunity to meet the author and ask him questions with reference to their outlook of the book.

BOOK DISCUSSION

September 21, 2022         Attendees:10

Book Club organized a book discussion on the book, The Magic by Rhonda Byrne in the college library. With the exception of a select few, the majority of those in attendance were already familiar with the contents of the book. It was ensured that each individual present was provided with a summary of the book’s contents. The book reveals the transformative power of gratitude within a 2,000-year-old sacred text. With a 28-day journey, readers can apply this knowledge to completely transform their lives into joy.

During the discussion, participants shared their personal perspectives on the book. The ensuing discourse among the students and the teacher in charge Ms. Trisha Dutta was of significant consequence. Each individual present was able to glean meaningful insights and knowledge from the discussion.

KITAB KHANA VISIT

The members of The Book Club along with Faculty in Charge Ms. Trisha Dutta visited the book store as part of the cultural excursion. Every member shared their opinion on a book by their favourite author with great enthusiasm. There was a special discussion held on the novel Verity by Colleen Hoover in the Kitab Khanna café. The visit was an interesting exposure for second year and third year students as it encouraged their involvement in book discussion, reading, review writing and other book club activities.

PROSE PROS - CONVERSATION WITH NOVELISTS

February 5, 2023         Attendees: 33

Book Club organised a visit to Prose Pros as part of the Kala Ghoda Art Festival. It was held at the CSMVS Main Lawn. The students got to hear first-hand accounts from the next generation of novelists. It was an evening of captivating literature and engaging conversation with some of the most promising new voices in the world of fiction. From debut authors to rising stars, these writers took the audience on a journey through their imaginative worlds and unique perspectives. What does it mean to be an Indian writer in postcolonial 21st century India? How do fiction writers in a globalised post-truth world remain rooted and yet transcend their roots? These were some of the areas discussed by exciting panel with Tanuj Solanki, Abdullah Khan, Arjun Raj Gaind and Tashan Mehta with Indira Chandrasekhar.

READ ME LIKE A BOOK

Book Club organised a visit to Read me like a book as part of the Kala Ghoda Art Festival. It was a human library event held at the CSMVS Main Lawn. The students got to sit in a circle around human books and hear their personal stories of triumph, struggle, and growth.

From an IIT-engineer-turned monk to inspiring sportswomen, from unlikely entrepreneurs to trauma survivors, these powerful stories touched hearts and opened minds. Rasikraman Das an IIT-engineer-turned monk spoke about his journey from coding machine to decoding life. Aparna Piramal Raje spoke about her book revolving around destigmatizing mental health in India.

Harish Iyer spoke about his fight for equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Divya Miglani spoke about her journey of balancing a career as a media revenue strategist along with being a professional race car driver.

BOOK LAUNCH CEREMONY

Book Club members attended the book launch of Design Your Destiny by Anirudh Gupta at IMC, Churchgate. Mr. Anirudh Gupta delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of investing in stock markets, particularly at a young age.

Subsequently, the book was unveiled and showcased to the audience, after which the speaker expounded on the significance of the stock market and shared some of the key insights and strategies contained in the book. The book covered a wide range of topics related to investing in stock markets, including how to research and analyze stocks, how to diversify a portfolio, and how to manage risk. The discourse included a discussion of the advantages of early investments, making it highly educational and informative.

Following the presentation, the author held a Q&A session with the audience. Overall, the entire team found the session to be highly engaging and beneficial.

THE MAGIC OF BOOKS
October 15, 2020

The keynote speaker for the session was Dr. Paromita Chakrabarti. She delivered a wonderful presentation explaining about different genres, how different books affect the readers differently. Valuable contributions to the discussions were made by I/C Principal Dr. Pooja Ramchandani and Vice Principal Dr. Navin Punjabi.

BOOK DISCUSSION AND REVIEW
March 15, 2021

Members enthusiastically participated in the discussion to share their insights on their favourite book or the book they had most recently completed. The session concluded with a lot of recommendations being made and people adding a ton of books to their ‘to read’ lists.

BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION
April 20, 2021

In this intercollegiate competition participants were asked to review a book of their choice in a report of 200-1000 words. A lot of entries were received. Sharika Gummandvelly an SYBMS student from H.R College was declared winner.

CONNEXION
April 9 & 10, 2021

The book club participated in Connexion an intercollegiate literary fest organised by Thakur College. One of the team members Shashvat Sharma secured overall 1st position in the Essay and Creative Writing event of the fest.

LOQUI
May 6, 2021

The book club participated in Loqui an intercollegiate Oratory arts fest organised by SRCC, University of Delhi. This was a one-day fest where a of the team member Shashvat Sharma secured overall 1st position in the Philosophical Elocution competition.

BOOK CLUB DATABASE LAUNCH
May 9, 2021

The book club database was launched in the college with over 250 eBooks from multiple genres and by multiple authors. This initiative was appreciated and well received by all.
