NATURE CLUB

The Nature Club of H.R. College is a committed club of 50 members with a zest for protection and a passion for sensitizing the youth about the various issues that plague the country and Mumbai in particular. The members of our club have attempted for this golden jubilee year to work at two distinct levels one, of generating awareness in the college and among the youth and at the second level, to train and create ourselves to move towards our aim of improving the environment of our city.
The NCHR orientation was held on Monday, 13th July, 2009, in the presence of our chief guest, Mrs Kirti Manian, of the British Council. Our Principal and Hon'ble Sheriff of Mumbai, Dr. Indu Shahani, inducted the core committee by presenting them with their badges. Dr. Shahani complimented the all girls team of core committee which pledged to take
forward the HR dream of going green. The other members were oriented about the forthcoming events for this academic year.

On 2nd August, 2009 the club organised a monsoon trek in the beautiful hills of the Sayadris. The trek site was Prabal about 15 Kms from Panvel at the outskirts of Mumbai. About 105 students participated in the trek. Amidst the lush hills, we learnt our first lessons of bonding with each other. Disciplineand confidence in oneself was the key to reaching our goal which was the summit. It took us 2 hours to reach the hill top. Keeping our intention of making the youth better prepared citizens, the club organised a trip to the BMC to attend a workshop on Disaster Management. The session was interactive and the officers from the Fire Brigade and the Indian Army too met the members. The Disaster Management Cell was also shown to the participants. One of our members, Raaj Kumar Girish Chandiramani, participated in an Intercollegiate Poster Making Competition, held on October 15, 2009 in Kamladevi Gauridutt Mittal College of Arts and Commerce, Malad, on Climate Change and bagged the second position.

Between 5th and 10th October, we organised an 'E'Week spread over five days with numerous activities related to environmental awareness and concern. The first event organised was a movie screening 'Wall-E'. It was a movie about the accumulation of waste in the environment and the impact of the same on the lives of the people in this world several years in the future. The second event dealt with creating some useful products out of waste materials. There was an overwhelming response from the students for the event which was titled "Best out of Waste". The winners were: Nirali Chheda and Khusboo Rupani who made wind chimes, pen stands, CD racks, among others. Day three, was Photography competition held for two separate categories, 'Mumbai Meri Jaan' and 'Nature'.

There was also an overwhelming response for the competition and the choice of the winner was indeed difficult. However, the first position for the category on Nature was given to Kush Shah, and that for Mumbai meri Jaan was given to Yash Gupta.

Our fourth day, was dedicated towards making ourselves better citizens of tomorrow. We held a 'Plastic Awareness Campaign', which highlighted the problems associated with plastic and provided some alternative suggestions for the same. The entire college participated in the campaign in which red thumb prints were taken after generating awareness in support of our movement. We appreciate the support we got from the principal, staff and the students.

NCHR, proudly co organised the College Annual day with GEMS and PSDS on the 23rd Dec., 2009. Dr. Indu Shahani, Sheriff of Mumbai & Principal was the Chief Guest. There were over 1000 recipients of the awards which included Superstars, club wise achievers, academic achievers and major trophies won in the Inter-collegiate competitions by Choice and the Sports Council.

The NCHR would like to congratulate all the winners for being winners all the way especially, Jivvya Shahani, for wining an all rounder award.
